Google (GOOG), not new to patent litigation as is known from the Android days, has recently bought patents from Hon Hai, a Taiwanese electronics contract manufacturing company, in order to make sure the Google glass does not go the Android way. These include patents related to head mounted technology, which enables images to be superimposed on real world view. Now if you are beginning to think what Google would do with these newly acquired patents, one needs to just think of ‘Google Glass’, a Google product in the making. Google will use the image superimposing technology for Google Glass, and wants to strengthen its hold on the technology by having patents for the same. Though it is not yet certain what plans competitors have to counter Google’s ‘Glass’, the acquisition of these technology patents could hold Google in good stead in case of patent wars ahead and we must remember that patent wars aren’t a thing of the past yet.
