Alphabet Inc Business Profile

Alphabet (NSDQ:GOOGL), formerly known as Google, is an American multinational conglomerate. After the re-organization of Google's business units, Alphabet Inc became the parent company, which now holds Google, along with the company's multiple ventures, such as Google X labs among others, which were separated from its largely online advertising and internet based initiatives, which remain under Google. Most of Google's intricately intertwined resources, like YouTube, Android, Google Play store, etc were retained as part of the Google segment, while other ventures, like the company's interests in self driving cars, connected devices, wearables and Internet of Things (IoT) among others, were carved out of Google, to fall under the broader umbrella, Alphabet Inc. Founded back in 1996 by by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, Google built it's commercial business around the internet search industry, with it's search engine, also known popularly as Google. Eventually going public via an IPO in 2004, Google changed the online search industry to the extent that the term Google became somewhat synonymous with online search tools. Interestingly, China's leading search engine Baidu was c0-founded by Robin Li, who was a counterpart to Page and Brin, who were also developing ranking algorithms to help users wade through the vast infinity that is the Internet. Google is currently the biggest player in the online advertising space. Google's competitors in the paid advertising domain include Facebook (NASDAQ:FB), Microsoft (NASDAQ:NASDAQ:MSFT) and Yahoo (NASDAQ:YHOO) though the Bing-Yahoo! network, and LinkedIn (NYSE:LNKD). Google stock price has increased a stellar 50% so far this year.. not by doing anything fancy, but by selling advertisement space the old fashioned way!

Facebook & Google to join hands. It is a good move by Google as it combines Google's search targeted ads with Facebook's targeting based on user information like interests, and demographic profiles. A win win situation for both the biggies!

Goog is down from 900 to 850 in last 3 months or so. Are people worried about their next phone? It will be an awesome phone and whatever happens to the phone, google search keeps minting billions!
