There has been a buzz around Amazon Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN), with reports of a partner company having bought a one million sq feet warehouse on the outskirts of Manhattan. The warehouse was previously a grocery store and has all facilities required to store ‘Fresh groceries’. Does that ring some bells? Do you remember our article on Amazonfresh and amazon’s plans of pushing the service to other major urban areas? Oh I guess joining the dots isn’t pretty tough. I learnt that when I was a kid. Well to put it straight amazon’s interest in a grocery store only leads to a single conclusion; a launch of its ‘fresh’ same day delivery services in New York, the nation’s largest market with about 8 million people. Now even a small portion of those people means a significant number of customers interacting with the online retailing giant on a regular basis, purchasing everything from groceries to home appliances. That could amount to significant additional value for the firm and looks like Bezos is well on his way to make customers buy everything from what started as a ‘bookstore’. That means some serious competition to whatever kind of retailer you happen to be.
